Sometimes a holiday centerpiece is a grand floral statement. But a scattering of greenery and a few meaningful ornaments is a less expensive and often more festive alternative—with a bonus: It doesn’t get in the way of across-the-table conversation. Pick out three favorite Christmas decorations of roughly the same size and color, then fill three vases with seasonal greens and berries or flowers to match. Match vases to ornaments and place the groupings in intervals down the middle of your table. Fill in-between spaces with more loose greens and berries.
