Ale House Burgers With Red Onion Compote
3 red onions, diced
12 ounces ale-style beer, Newcastle®
1 cup water
1⁄2 cup packed brown sugar, C&H®
1 tablespoon meat loaf seasoning, McCormick®
11⁄2 pounds lean ground beef
1⁄2 cup cooked black beans
1⁄4 cup ale-style beer, Newcastle®
2 tablespoons meat loaf seasoning, McCormick®
1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, McCormick®
4 hamburger buns
Lettuce and tomato slices
For compote, in a medium saucepan, combine onions, beer, water, brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon meat loaf seasoning. Stir to combine. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, about 1 hour or until the mixture has thickened and has reduced to about 2 cups, stirring occasionally. Transfer to a bowl; set aside to cool completely.
For burgers, in a large bowl, combine ground beef, black beans, beer, meat loaf seasoning, and cinnamon. Mix well; form into 4 patties slightly larger than the buns. (Refrigerate patties if not cooking immediately.)
Set up grill for direct cooking over high heat. Oil grate when ready to start cooking. Place patties on hot oiled grill. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium doneness (160°F). Serve on buns with lettuce, tomato, and compote.
